Officials from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan will meet today in Islamabad to sign a joint protocol finalizing the railway project connecting the three countries.
The planned railway will follow the route from Termez to Mazar-i-Sharif, Logar, and Kharlachi. The project intends to connect the three countries for both passenger and freight services, facilitating regional transit and bilateral trade and strengthening people-to-people connections.
This project is mutually beneficial to all parties involved. Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, both landlocked countries, are actively seeking opportunities that will open access to the sea.
Since the return of the Taliban after the withdrawal of US troops in 2021, Kabul’s priorities have been to stabilize the country and improve the its economic situation. Deepening regional integration and connectivity will enable development opportunities for Afghanistan.
